Collaboration and communication in etwinning projects: example of best practice

The International Communicative Twins project is being carried out in the current 2015-2016 school year between two partners, the teacher Juan Alberto Galván from the Montpellier School in Madrid and his partner Roisin Ni Dhonncha from the Le Cheile Secondary School in Ireland.

The first activity proposed in the year-long project has been to get to know the cities of the partner schools. This activity was carried out in several phases during the first term of the year, and has been a true collaborative effort between partners.

    • To achieve this, mixed nationality teams have been created who’ve had to investigate the partner city by using treasure maps of Madrid and Dublin. Partner members of their teams were able to help them solve the clues, if necessary. On the treasure map they had to resolve the evidence in a particular order to form a word needed to discover the hidden treasure.
    • In the next stage, pupils sought information about places found on the map, and with that information obtained they asked multiple choice questions with the Kahoot tool about each of the cities, as well as a presentation that was videotaped and published on the TwinSpace.

Another idea that was implemented was the assessment of presentations made by pupils using the rubric provided to them by teachers, and which included different aspects, such as group work, the appropriateness of vocabulary used, while in the presentation aspects such as the images used, the format or the organization of information were taken into account.

    • Finally, as part of the communication that took place throughout the entire activity, there were video conferences in which a competition was held using the questions that had been asked with Kahoot.

The design of this activity has undoubtedly reflected the philosophy of the eTwinning programme: collaboration between partners to achieve a common goal with the contributions of everyone, the very fluid communication necessary for this type of collaboration, videoconferencing held creatively through a competition and collaborative assessment using rubrics.

We’ve left a summary here that teachers have made of this activity in eBook format:
